One of the oldest cooperatives in the world, the Austrian Raiffeisen Ware Austria (RWA), present in Serbia under the name RWA Serbia, has opened a modern seed processing complex in Rumenka near Novi Sad, whose value amounts to over EUR 6 million.

According to the press release, Dusan Mezulic, a director at RWA Serbia, reminds that this is only a part of the RWA logistics center which will be fully completed by 2026:

– The processing center encompasses 16 silo-cells with a capacity of around 6,300 tons and a floor storage facility for the reception of around 6,000 tons of natural goods. The handling and processing line entails a pre-treatment device at the reception, a selector, separators, a gravity table, a color sorter, a sprayer with a capacity of 15 tons per hour and an automatic packer, and the palletization is done by using a special adhesive and a robotic arm, without the use of stretch foil, which reduces the use of plastic.

Dragan Jockov, a director at RWA Serbia, adds that, thanks to this investment, they will be able to offer the best certified seeds by European standards to agriculturists in Serbia:

– I believe that, together with the local representatives of the economy and agriculture, we will contribute to the strengthening of the agrarian sector in the Republic of Serbia. We are focusing on seeds, primarily wheat, barley and soybean.

The ambassador of Austria to Serbia, Christian Ebner, noted that examples such as RWA Serbia were of invaluable importance for the strengthening of the relations between Serbia and Austria.

For over 15 years, RWA Serbia has been investing in the development and selection of quality corn, soybean, wheat, barley, rapeseed and sunflower seeds. The investments also entail the buyout of mercantile goods, forward exchange contracts on goods and supplying agriculturists with the best-quality fertilizer, as well as the RWA plant protection program. RWA is one of the oldest farmers’ cooperatives in the world. It was formed in the 19th century and it is still owned by its members.
