From next year, in addition to the highways, road toll will also be collected on “fast routes” (probably meaning motorways – eKapija’s note) in Serbia, and for the biggest freight trucks, on busy main roads as well. A special company will be formed, whose only job will be to collect the road toll, announced the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic.

– According to our law, road toll is only collected on the highways. From 2026, we will have around 180 kilometers of fast routes completed, so we will charge for their use too, but not through booths, but through the satellite monitoring of vehicles. The price of the road toll on a fast route cannot be the same as on a highway, but we will charge for the use – Vesic said in an interview for Bloomberg Adria.

When asked why a special company is to be founded for road toll collection, Vesic says that, with the collection of the road toll on the highways, fast routes and, for the biggest freight trucks, on certain main roads, the amount is expected to be around three times as high than this year, when revenues of over RSD 40 billion are expected.

Talking about the completion of big civil engineering projects in the territory of Serbia, Vesic pointed out that 54 kilometers of the fast route Sabac-Loznica, which were supposed to be completed the next year, would be completed in 2024 and that the same applied to 40 kilometers of the Danube Corridor. Also, nearly 50 kilometers of the Morava Corridor should be completed, said Vesic.
