For the construction of the campus of the technical faculties in Belgrade, the European Union will set aside EUR 21 million, and the Agreement on the Grant of the EU Western Balkans Investment Framework for the improvement of the university infrastructure in Serbia was signed in Paris by the minister for public investment of Serbia, Darko Glisic, and the vice-governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank in charge of financial strategy, Sandrine Gaudin.

The minister said that the total value of the investment for the construction of the new campus and the energy repair of the old facilities has been estimated at EUR 63 million, of which the grant amounts to 30% of the value of the project.

– This grant, together with the loan proceeds, will be used for the construction of the entire campus of the technical faculties. It will be used for the construction of additional capacities for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the creation of the missing education and research capacities for the faculties of architecture and civil engineering, as well as for the improvement of the overall conditions for the professors and students through the construction of shared rooms and an underground parking lot for all five technical faculties (electrical engineering, civil engineering, technology and metallurgy and mechanical engineering) in one block – pointed out Glisic.

The funds will also be invested in improving the energy performances of the existing buildings of the five technical faculties within the campus of the technical faculties in Belgrade and harmonizing the existing buildings with the standards of safety and accessibility, he noted.

Let us remind that, around two years ago, the winning solution selected at the contest for the preparation of the urban planning-architectural design of the new building of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering with shared features of the technical faculties in Belgrade, which was opened within the project of technical assistance to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, was presented. A detailed development of the first-prize design then followed, as did the preparation of the documentation, so as to enable a successive reconstruction of said block which is bordered by Kraljice Marije Street, Ruzveltova Street, Kralja Aleksandra Blvd and Karnegijeva Street.

The winning design and the urban project were prepared by Projektni biro 4 MIND. As pointed out two years ago, Phase 1 entails the construction of a new facility of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, connected with the building of the technical faculties and the buildings of the faculties of mechanical engineering and technology and metallurgy, as well as the reconstruction of all the existing facilities affected by the new construction. Phase 2 entails the extension of the faculties of mechanical engineering and technology and metallurgy, as well as the construction of a pavilion facility behind the University Library.

Phase 3 pertains to the construction of a new substation, and Phase 4 pertains to the extension of the pavilion-gallery with a heated corridor to the building of the State Archives of Serbia.

The gross area of the new facilities (underground and aboveground) is 34,347 m2, of which 27,773 m2 belongs to the new building of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering with the pavilion near the library, 4,834 m2 belongs to the extension of the faculty and 1,740 m2 belongs to the substation.
