Nikodijevic: First BG subway line to be completed in late 2028 or early 2029

The first line of the Belgrade Subway will start working at the end of 2028 or the beginning of 2029, announced the president of the City Assembly of Belgrade, Nikola Nikodijevic, as reported by Beoinfo. He added that the “moles” which would excavate the underground tubes for the subway system would start working in 2025.

He said for Tanjug that the works on the Makisko Polje depot had started and noted that it was the most complicated part, given that the entire system would be managed from the depot.

Previously, the director of the PUC Belgrade Metro and Train, Andreja Mladenovic, said that the budget envisaged funds for the procurement of two TBM machines, so-called “moles”, and that he was convinced that they would be ordered in 2024.

The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, also said that, in 2025, aboveground works and shallow excavations on a section of Line 1 would begin and that one tunnel boring machine would start working near Bele Vode and the other near the Pancevo Bridge.

– They will head toward each other, eventually connecting, and that’s how the first subway line is to be done. As soon as 2025, the excavation of the tunnels with TBMs is to begin, as are the preparatory works for Line 2. In 2026, there will be excavation works with machines, so, it will progress a lot and we are beginning to build all the stations on Line 1 and the preparatory works for the stations on Line 2 are beginning – Vesic said.

Let us remind that the first subway line will have 21 stations and be 21 kilometers long.
