Government of Serbia adopts Decree on implementation of Decree on determining Spatial Plan of Special-Purpose Area for realization of Jadar project

The Government of Serbia has adopted the Decree on the implementation of the Decree on determining the Spatial Plan of the Special-Purpose Area for the realization of the Jadar project of the exploitation and processing of the jadarite mineral.

As said in the document published on the government’s website, on the day of the coming into effect of this decree, the Decree on determining the Spatial Plan of the Special-Purpose Area for the realization of the Jadar project of the exploitation and processing of the jadarite mineral, which the government previously canceled, starts applying again.

The decree that the government has adopted now comes into effect on the day after the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

The basis for the adoption of the government’s new decree is the decision of the Constitutional Court adopted on July 11, according to this document.

Let us remind that the Constitutional Court pronounced the government’s decision on the stopping of the Jadar project unconstitutional last week.

In 2022, the Government of Serbia revoked the permit from the company Rio Tinto, following the mass protests organized by environmental activists.
