Minister of Economy and Regional Development Nebojsa Ciric and Minister
of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic marked today in
Indjija the beginning of construction of the first factory for the removal
of waste from the meat industry in accordance with the highest environmental
and safety standards of the EU.
The official commencement of works was attended by Indjija Mayor Goran Jesic.
This factory will be built by the Belgian-Serbian company Energozelena, which will employ about 100 workers. Energozelena will invest €21 million in this factory.
The Serbian government approved a RSD 300 million loan through the Development Fund for the construction of the factory and the purchase of necessary equipment, and another RSD 1 million should be earmarked for the next year, Ciric said.
Dulic said that that was the first modern investment in biomass treatment and that it was part of the implementation of the "green economy" project, which had provided jobs for 8,000 people since the beginning of the mandate of the current government, while a total of 10,000 should be employed by the end of its mandate.
With this factory, which will have to cover the processing of animal waste in Serbia, one of the conditions of the EU will be fulfilled so that Serbia could become an exporter of food, Dulic underlined.
According to him, the factory will be put in operation in September 2012, and it will process 150,000 tonnes of animal waste per year.
The construction of the factory in Indjija is part of the Serbian government’s project Let’s Clean Serbia, which focuses on the general problem of waste disposal in Serbia.
