Surcin-Obrenovac Bridge opens for traffic in December 2011
(the Surcin-Obrenovac Bridge)
Works on the Surcin-Obrenovac Bridge are close to end, and it is expected to be opened for traffic in early December. The bridge will connect two Belgrade boroughs, thus making the travel between them significantly shorter.
This is the only bridge over the Sava river in addition to the one in Sabac. Its total length is 630 meters, and it is 14.5 meters wide. The bridge will have two traffic lanes and a pavement on both sides, as well as a space for infrastructure installations.
- It is only left to build another 75 meters of the bridge, and the works on access roads are also close to end. According to an agreement we have with Mostogradnja, the bridge is expected to be opened for traffic in early December. Once completed, it will significantly relieve traffic in the city center and on Gazela Bridge - said City Manager Aleksandar Bijelic.
Mostogradnja Director General Branko Knezevic stated that 950 meters of access roads had been built on the Surcin side of the bridge, and that the total length of access roads built on the Obrenovac side amounted to 720 meters. He added that earthworks on those sections were finished and that paving works were about to start.
Aleksandar Bijelic also stressed that the Zemun-Borca Bridge was in the phase of preparation works and that we would soon be able to see its contours.
