Vranje gets modern recycling center
The city of Vranje has officially started the implementation of a big project - construction of a recycling center that will solve the problem of solid waste by the standards of the European Union. A necessary study will be designed by the renowned French company Veolia Group, which specializes in planning, financing, construction and public waste management.
Vranje Mayor Miroljub Stojcic promises that the life of people in Vranje will be more beautiful and of higher quality in few years.
- Vranje is the first city in Serbia to make a capital facility - regional sanitary landfill. We are now entering the second phase of that project, which is called 'public waste management' - says Stojcic.
He explains that a local plan for solid waste management has been made on the basis of the study, and that the French company has come to Vranje to resume the implementation of this project.
Frank Rainie, president of Veolia Group, said that that company was already present in Serbia and that he had accepted the partnership with Vranje with pleasure.
The recycling center will have the capacities to satisfy the growing needs of Vranje and all municipalities in the south of Serbia. With its equipment and staff, this center will also be a strong business center, which is why it is going to receive a financial support from the state of Serbia and the European Union. The sanitary landfill Meteris near Vranje spans 40,000 square meters and receives about 250 cubic meters of waste a day. It is designed to be used over the next 20 years.
