The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic has announced, for the end of next year, the possibility of the opening of a referendum on the mining of lithium.

In Paris, he told the press that he first wanted to get an analysis from local experts regarding environmental protection and that he would then see what to do next.

– If it goes as planned, we can ask the citizens to say what they have at the end of next year… and they will be able to choose whether they want it in Loznica, whether they want it in Western Serbia or in the whole Serbia – said Vucic.

He said: “Wherever and whatever happens – we will win.”

Vucic explained his conviction that the authorities would win the referendum too by saying that “the people are not choosing between mining and health,” but, according to him, “between false care” and “economic progress and prosperity.”
