A plaque marking the completion of the works on the modernization of the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport was unveiled at the airport in the presence of the presidents of Serbia and France, Aleksandar Vucic and Emmanuel Macron.

In January 2018, the French company Vinci was selected at the tender for the concessionaire of the Nikola Tesla Airport for 25 years, whereby it took upon itself the obligation to invest in the modernization of that airport.

The investments have encompassed the renovation of passenger terminals, the expansion of the capacities of the airport and the improvement of services and facilities, as well as the improvement of environmental standards.

The works on the Belgrade Airport started in 2020, and the value of the investments exceeds EUR 730 million.

Macron congratulated the Serbian and French teams that had taken part in the modernization and expansion of the Belgrade Airport.

He said that France and himself were friends of Serbia and that he was glad to be able to contribute to the improvement of the two countries’ relations.

– The airport is now much bigger, it is getting an international dimension and France wants to continue being there with you. It is my great pleasure that I am here today with you and that I am able to see what you have done, thank you for entrusting this project to us – said Macron.

Vucic said that the Belgrade Airport recorded a growth of the number of passengers of 13% and that it was expected to serve nine million passengers in 2024.

– The Belgrade Airport is now entirely different, ten times as modern, more beautiful, with more content, we wouldn’t be able to do that without a huge investment, without France’s participation, I am endlessly grateful to them for it – said Vucic.

He added that plenty more would have to be done at the airport so that it could serve 15 million passengers a year, as planned.

He thanked Macron for his visit and the respect he had shown toward Serbia.

The French president ended his two-day visit to Serbia with his presence at the ceremony on the occasion of the completion of the works on the Nikola Tesla Airport.
