Ksenija Hajdukovic of the Port Governance Agency said that it was the first docking at the Kostolac terminal after ten years. She said that the results of the nautical season up to that point indicated a growing trend.
– By September 1, we recorded the docking of 988 cruise ships and 139,495 passengers. The number of passengers is 13% higher compared to the same period last year, and we expect to welcome 200,000 tourists from cruise ships by the end of the season at terminals in Serbia – she said.
According to her, the Agency and the Government of Serbia are working intensively on the opening of new international passenger terminals and the construction of marinas within the “Sail Serbia” project, to the end of the further affirmation and promotion of numerous nautical potentials of Serbia.
– Through the project, we will make the nautical infrastructure of our country more complete. Furthermore, the project will contribute to an increase in revenues from this sector and a higher number of tourists on rivers. We are striving for Serbia to strengthen its position on the nautical maps of Europe and the world and become a mandatory destination for sailing. Kostolac is an important location for cruise ships on the Danube, as it provides the visitors with the opportunity to learn about the rich legacy of ancient Rome in these areas – she underlined.
After they were welcomed, the tourists were taken to the Archaeology Park “Viminacium”, where a tour of the location and a traditional Rome-style feast were organized for them.
