A joint laboratory of the School of Food and Biological Engineering of Jiangsu University, the University of Novi Sad and the Faculty of Technology has opened at the Faculty of Technology in Novi Sad.

As the Provincial Government announced, at the opening, the laboratory was formed by Jiangsu University from China, the University of Novi Sad and the Faculty of Technology with the aim of developing all-encompassing cooperation in the field of scientific research, development of joint education programs and other forms of academic cooperation.

The provincial secretary for high education and scientific research, professor Dr. Branko Markoski, pointed out that the opening of the laboratory best showed the power of learning together, exchange of knowledge and striving for new ideas and solutions.

– The establishing of a laboratory with state-of-the-art technology will contribute to the circular bioeconomy of the agricultural and food sectors of Serbia and China, while at the same time providing active support to Chinese and Serbian companies from the agricultural and food sectors – stated professor Dr. Markoski and emphasized that it was a way of investing in people and, with that, the state, its sustainable future and strong progress.

He pointed out that Jiangsu University, which had placed 6th on the Shanghai 2023 ARWU list in the field of food science and food technology, was a leading Chinese university in that field.

– In Serbia, the center of the food industry is in Vojvodina, and the Faculty of Technology is one of the most active parts of the University in said field and that is why I believe that a joint laboratory will contribute to the development of all-encompassing cooperation in the field of scientific research, development of joint education programs and development of other forms of academic and economic cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia – said professor Dr. Markoski and added that the laboratory would be run by an academic board consisting of ten Serbian and ten Chinese experts.

The laboratory will create the most modern technologies for the valorization of agricultural and food waste in the form of advanced biomaterials and thereby contribute to the circular bioeconomy of the agricultural and food sectors of Serbia and China. The scientific research carried out in the laboratory will be directed at the use of agricultural and food waste for the development of smart food packaging, development of materials for the encapsulation of nutrients and aromas, development of sensors for food based on biocompatible materials and development of advanced edible materials.
