The Bulgarian company is the one that overhauled the turbine and the boiler in Block A5 of the Thermal Power Plant Kosovo, which was put into operation back in 1975.
Non-destructive controls
CERB does the so-called non-destructive metal control – the examination of the rotors and diaphragms, the examination of the blades, metallography, endoscopic checks, the turbine’s back resource etc.
Also, the plan is to measure the vibrations before and after the repair of the turbine, to test the blade of the rotor under a lower pressure, to do the dynamic balancing on the mobile stand of the rotor under high, medium and low pressures etc.
– This is not the first tender we won in Kosovo. In the past two years, we have overhauled several turbogenerators of 220 MW each there. Bulgarian energy experts are certainly appreciated outside of Bulgaria. Unfortunately, in our country, there’s not a lot of desire to maintain our own energy structures, which leads to accidents. We witness such cases in nearly every quarter – CERB explains.
Two blocks operational
The TPP Kosovo A is located around eight kilometers from the capital city, Pristina. It runs on lignite coal and is owned by KEK since 1999. At the moment, only two of the total of five units are operation at the TPP. The annual production of electrical energy from the TPP Kosovo A is around 1500 GWh. The area is very dependent on electrical energy produced from fossil fuels (92% by 2023).
CERB is the biggest Bulgarian company for the diagnostics, repair and maintenance of electric machines and equipment and it was founded in 1948. In the past 20 years, it has realized projects mostly outside of Bulgaria – in Albania, North Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Romania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina etc.
