Flywheel for development of Becej - Hungary's Aquaprofit to build EUR 30 million spa complex on the Tisa

The famous well driller Karolj Sos started the construction of a public bath in Becej in 1904, thus laying the foundations for Iodine Spa. Today, in addition to this spa, Bela Ladja hotel and a sports center are also situated in that location. The town lying on the right bank of the Tisa river now continues its long tradition in the field of spa tourism. On a seven-hectare area by the river, Hungary's Aquaprofit should soon kick off the construction of a spa complex.

- We have already signed a preliminary agreement with the partner from Hungary. A tender procedure for the appointment of contractor is underway. Two months ago, a well was built and a geothermal water of appropriate quality and with the temperature of 65 degrees Centigrade was discovered. Digging of the well was backed by the Vojvodina government with RSD 40 million. Ongoing thorough analysis of that water was preceded by its basic chemical analysis - Radovan Stojanovic from the Becej Department of Economy says for eKapija.

According to the words of our interlocutor, this investment is worth between 25 and 30 million euros, and the project should be implemented within the next two or three years.

- A new hotel, wellness and spa center will be built to make the offer including various facilities on the Tisa river complete. About 200 people will be employed in the first phase. This complex will be a flywheel for later development of the whole municipality - says Stojanovic who presented potentials of Becej, on behalf of the municipality, at the Investment Fair in Novi Sad.

New guests may be attracted by a story about wells with "yellow water", which represent one of the greatest symbols of the town and a tourist attraction because they are part of a legend about travelers who stayed forever in Becej after drinking the first glass of "yellow water".

A hotel and the sports and recreation center Mladost, comprising a sports hall, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym, shooting range, sauna, outdoor tennis courts, are also situated on the seven-hectare area where new facilities will be built. There are also a stadium of the football club Becej, the health center Jodna Banja (Iodine Spa) with thermal water, a promenade alongside the bank of the Tisa river, etc.
