“New life” for Roman House and Mahmud Pasha Hammam in Golubac – Tender worth RSD 100 million opened

The Ministry of Tourism and Youth has opened the tender for the revitalization and adaptation of the hammam and the Roman house within the Golubac Fortress complex, and the value of the job has been estimated at nearly RSD 100 million.

The Archaeology Park of the Golubac Fortress will soon enrich the cultural offer with the presentation of the remains of the Roman House and the Mahmud Pasha Hammam, thanks to the upcoming adaptation and restoration. The works on these historical structures, which date back to the Roman and the Ottoman period respectively, will ensure their permanent protection and enable the visitors to explore them freely and enjoy their rich past.

The Roman House, which is located in the northeastern part of the city of Golubac, dates back to the Roman period, whereas the Mahmud Pasha Hammam, built in the 15th century, is a monument of the Ottoman architecture. Both structures have been partially restored in the past decades, but are dilapidating due to the atmospheric impact and other damages.

In order to secure a permanent protection and the possibility of safe tours of these historical monuments, their adaptation and restoration is planned. The plans include the cleaning and stabilization of the walls, the replacement of the temporary structures with permanent materials, as well as the installation of protective roof structures and glass panels. To the end of preserving the authenticity, traditional materials such as lime mortar and brick, are used, whereas electrical installations and drainage systems are planned for modern functionality.
