The deadline is short and there’s plenty of work. The new law brings plenty of new features, says the work group which has started preparing the bill, which should enable greater road safety for all participants in the traffic.
Changes in the fields of micromobility and digitization and permanent driving license revocation have been announced. The head of the Traffic Police Administration at the Ministry of the Interior, Slavisa Lakicevic, announced digital files for drivers, where they will be able to view, at any time, the number of violations and reports they’ve had, whether there are any other activities, calls and everything else.
– That’s where they can also follow their penalty points and everything else. Of course, we will introduce categorization when it comes to penalty points – notes Lakicevic.
The acting director of the Traffic Safety Agency, Branko Stamatovic, points out that they will insist on introducing the use of alco-locks.
– So that those who make certain violations under the influence of alcohol, if they keep repeating them, must install alco-locks in their cars and thereby suspend the possibility of starting the car under the influence of alcohol – explains Stamatovic.
Each year, the traffic police detect more than a million and a half violations. Still, the drivers agree that repressive measures should be increased and that traffic controls should be made stricter. During the preparation of the new law, the following email address is available for suggestions and ideas - [email protected].
The editor of the TV show SAT, Mladen Alvirovic, expects that, when the sanctions are stricter and when penalty points are regulated differently, when the taking away of vehicles from those who repeat the most severe violations really starts working, people will start asking themselves whether they should act differently at home too.
– We have no problem with 95% of the drivers. But in fact, the problem lies in the five percent of those who are the least conscientious, the most arrogant ones, those who don’t respect anything or anybody at any moment – notes Alvirovic.
As for the penalty policy, Lakicevic adds, it will certainly be changed, especially those violations which lead to the most severe traffic accidents.
– We will certainly make the penalty policy stricter when it comes to not using seat-belts – says Lakicevic.
The most recent Law on Traffic Safety was adopted in 2009, and since then it has gone through several amendments, among which is the measure of a temporary confiscation of the vehicle.
So far, 295 vehicles have been confiscated. They are confiscated for a period of up to two years, and the guilty party pays the demurrage.
