Novak splits with Sergio Tacchini, signs with Japan's Uniqlo
World number 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic is the new face of one of the world's most prestigious brands, the Japanese clothing and sports equipment manufacturer Uniqlo. A sponsorship deal will be signed in Paris, Tanjug news agency reports.
Novak will wear T-shirts with a new logo already at the French Open, the second Grand Slam of the season, named after the famous French aviator Roland Garros.
Djokovic ended his cooperation with Sergio Tacchini after the Rome tournament, to join this ambitious and successful company which plans to become number one brand in the world in their field, just like Djokovic is in the grand tennis sport.
Uniqlo, a subsidiary of Fast Retailing Co. company, is the strongest brand in Japan, but also a business giant on a global level, whose apparel was worn by Japan's Olympic athletes in the 1988, 2002 and 2004 Olympic Games.
They have 99 stores in Tokyo, 840 throughout Japan and 200 stores around the world.
The most exclusive one is on Fifth Avenue in New York with over 8,000 square meters.
Their main competitors are H&M and Zara, which indicates that the company turned to production of casual wear, but is also dedicated to creating high quality sports apparel and to innovations in modern technology and creating textile.
Uniqlo has sponsored Japan's top-ranked player Kei Nishikori and will undoubtedly get a woldwide promotion with a star like Novak Djokovic.
