Projektomontaza - Going upward to the 50th anniversary of operations

Reconstruction of indoor swimming pools within 11. april Sports Center in New Belgrade is completed, and after more than two decades, this bathing resort is again open to visitors.

Belgrade-based Projektomontaza, which carried out the refurbishment and adaptation of this complex, is the most responsible for the fact that the citizens of New Belgrade can enjoy themselves in these indoor swimming pools this year.

Zoran Krstic, executive director of Projektomontaza, says for eKapija that the number of workers engaged in the work averaged 80, but it also went up to 130 when the work was in full swing.

- In the first phase, which lasted from 2009 to 2010, we completed the reconstruction of the boiler room, substation, toilets, locker rooms, as well as thermal insulation of the facade and the replacement of carpentry. The second phase, which lasted from January 2012 until recently, included the refurbishment and adaptation of swimming pool interior and technology. The roof structure is completely refurbished, and so are electrical and thermal installations and telecommunication systems. The complex is now also equipped with an up-to-date air conditioning system with high energy efficiency, whose installation was done in the way that makes it possible to later install solar collectors and incorporate everything in a unique system - says Krstic.

Over the last few years Projektomontaza has been participating in the construction and reconstruction of a large number of swimming pools in Serbia. Swimming pools in Kragujevac, in Kosutnjak, in the sports center Milan Gale Muskatirovic, in Novi Sad-based SPENS are only some of them, and Projektomontaza has also started building a swimming pool complex in Ruma.

This does not mean that Projektomontaza is specialized only in swimming pools because its workers also participated in the construction of a series of significant facilities this and last year, including: Petnica Science Center, residential facilities within Stepa Stepanovic complex, Fiat`s factory in Kragujevac, Uzice Custom House, Nikola Tesla Airport, Science and Technology Park in Zvezdara, Novi Sad Main Postal Center, House of Correction in Krusevac.

Times are difficult, they say, but they still find a work to do. This year they have already signed contracts worth about EUR 40 million, which is close to the value of all the contracts they concluded last year.

- We expect a mild growth this year. All our workers and a large number of our collaborators are already employed – Krstic stresses.

Projektomontaza`s core activities include planning and performing intelligent building, plumbing, sewerage, thermal and electrical installations and construction and construction-vocational works.

The company exists since 1966, when it had only about 20 employees. It achieved great successes in the 1970s and the 1980s, when the number of their workers exceeded 1,000. They overcame the crisis in the 1990s and managed to survive.

Projektomontaza is now one of the few joint stock companies that are majority owned by their employees.

Sinisa Zoric, CEO of Projektomontaza, is proud of the company`s business successes in the previous period.

- The company currently employs 400 people and has a good market share. We`ve strengthened our staff structure and expanded our core activities. Since 2005, when the company`s operations were brought in compliance with the ISO 9001 standard, the company has been awarded certificates ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and an accredited laboratory for testing installations has been introduced. A competent certification authority has recently extended the validity of all these certificates.

- Today our company employs 70 engineers and represents a leader in the implementation of intelligent buildings. Our engineers both design software and carry out its integration. We`ve built smart systems in the Belgrade Arena, the business building B2 at Balkanska Street, VIG Plaza in New Belgrade`s Block 11a and the new facility of the Flight Control Center at Nikola Tesla Airport.

Our interlocutor says that the key to success, persistence and the continuity of operations lies in sacrifice, trust and the system of mutual relations that enables them to complete all the work within the agreed timeframe.

- A significant factor of the business policy is cooperation with a large number of domestic companies from the branch, with which we manage to implement demanding projects despite the objective difficulties currently faced by the construction industry.
