Nadal beats Novak to win French Open
(Rafael Nadal)
Spain's Rafael Nadal beat Serbia's Novak Djokovic to complete a rain-delayed men's final Monday and win the French Open for a record seventh time.
Down a break in the fourth set when the two resumed play, Nadal came on strong, immediately breaking back and going on to defeat the Serb 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in less than an hour after returning to the court.
Nadal will remain ranked No. 2. Djokovic will maintain the No. 1 ranking.
Djokovic, 25, was also trying to make history by becoming the first man in 43 years to win four Grand Slam titles in a row. But in spite of coming back from two sets down to claim the third set, trying to beat the player many consider the best clay-court specialist of all time proved too difficult.
