Electricity supply to KAP to be cut off on October 1st?
The Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) intends to cut off electricity to Podgorica Aluminum Plant (KAP) on October 1st over unpaid bills amounting to EUR 55 million, Dan newspaper cites an unofficial source from the government as saying.
Given that KAP cannot be disconnected from the grid at once, the supply of electricity to the company will be reduced to 84 MW per day in the meantime to avoid an additional import of electricity.
That means that KAP will cut its production in half, to 50,000 tonnes of raw aluminum per year, due to reduced electricity consumption.
EPCG decided to cut off electricity to KAP, whose monthly electricity bills currently amount to EUR 5 million, and told that to the company on September 5th, when it was requested that the entire debt for electricity be paid by September 15th, which KAP failed to do.
As Dan learns, the company has still not paid its bills for July and August.
