Panasonic still negotiates acquisition of Reum's facility in Svilajnac
Panasonic Lighting Devices Serbia is negotiating with Reum's mortgage creditors on the acquisition of a facility in Svilajnac.
If Panasonic takes over the facility from Germany's Reum Gmbh from Baden Virtenberg, it will be a clear signal that this Japanese company stays in this municipality.
Proizvodna hala je površine 2.500 kvadratnih metara, a "Panasoonic" u njoj već radi od početka 2011. godine.
The production facility spans 2,500 square meters, and this company has been using it since early 2011.
In Svilajnac, Panasonic produces energy-efficient electronic components for lighting equipment and employs 60 workers.
Panasonic is only the third company from Japan to make a significant investment in Serbia.
Before this investment by PEWS, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) invested in a tobacco plant in Senta, where Asahi Beer and Mitsui Corporation together launched the production of yeast-based diet supplements at the company Altech.
According to the data provided by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Serbia`s annual exports to Japan, dominated by food products, have been standing at only few hundred thousands US dollars for years now.
On the other hand, imports from Japan reach as much as USD 150 million per year.
The value of Serbia`s exports to Japan in the first six months of 2012 amounted to USD 2 million, whereas imports reached USD 75.5 million.
