Electrawinds kicks off production of energy from animal waste
After a trial period, a new "green" plant in Indjija that generates electricity from animal waste has been put into operation.
The plant in Indjija is the most modern and most innovative animal waste management unit in Serbia, and is completely in line with Serbian and European standards, Belgium's Electrawinds, coordinator of the animal waste ecological management project dubbed Energo-Zelena, said in a release on Tuesday (5 February 2013).
This project is also called "zero-waste plant," given that all waste is used for positive purposes, the release reads and specifies that the plant will primarily process waste from the meat industry and convert it into energy, but dead animals will be used as well.
The Energo-Zelena company was founded by Electrawinds and Serbian investment partners, and Electrawinds is its majority owner holding the 64-percent stake. Construction of the plant in Indjija commenced September 2011, and the total value of this investment is EUR 21 million.
Aside from useful effects on the environment, this plant will also have positive influence on the Serbian economy, considering that 32 people got a job in the first phase and that new jobs will be created with the expansion of the capacity, the release reads.
Electrawinds is an international power company engaged in the generation of electricity from renewable sources and the design of solutions for organic waste management.
