Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic today ceremoniously opened Grundfos' new factory for producing water pumps in the industrial zone of the town of Indjija, northern Serbia, Tanjug news agency has reported.

At the opening ceremony, Nikolic said that the decision by Grundfos to build a factory in Serbia testifies to the fact that we have become an attractive destination for investors.

The president emphasized that after the government change following the elections a year ago, the country has redefined its economic policy and now maximum efforts are being made to create a stable and predictable macroeconomic environment where the same rules will apply to all.

Nikolic said that Grundfos will have his full support as president for the legal security of the company's future business.

The EUR 50 million Grundfos investment is one of the biggest investments in the production in Serbia and one of the biggest regional investments in general.

Grundfos Group President Carsten Bjerg said that the globalization of production is a priority for Grundfos and that Serbia is the ideal location for the new factory.

Grundfos Serbia General Manager Jim Toft Nielsen pointed out that the factory in Serbia was designed to meet the demand for Grundfos products in southeastern Europe, adding that its opening is a great start for Grundfos Serbia, which would not be possible without the support of the Serbian government, Serbia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SIEPA) and the government of Vojvodina.

Indjija Mayor Petar Filipovic said that the Grundfos investment is important to Indjija not only because it means the creation of new jobs but also because it will serve as a reference to the municipality when it comes to the arrival of new investors.

The Grundfos management expects an increase in the number of employees in the factory from 149 to 350 by the end of 2014.

The new factory covers 26,000 square meters of space and represents the first stage of implementation of the Grundfos production plans in Serbia.
