Ikea at Bezanija - Swedish company chooses location for its first department store in Belgrade

An Ikea department store will be built at Bezanijska Kosa, on the site of a Beograd department store. Negotiations are underway, and people at the city administration say that a preliminary agreement has already been signed with Beograd Department Stores (RK Beograd). Therefore, it seems that the problem of location for a department store of this Swedish company has finally been solved after three years, Blic reports.

Milena Vujicic, Ikea spokesperson, has confirmed to Blic that they are negotiating the acquisition of land from RK Beograd.

- We will notify the public once the process is finished - she says.

Construction of the first Ikea department store in Serbia was first announced in 2010, when that facility was supposed to be built near Nikola Tesla Airport. However, Ikea has given up that location in the meantime.

The land of RK Beograd is situated on the Belgrade-Zagreb highway, in the vicinity of both Kika department store and Bezanija cemetery.

Ikea plans to have two of the five facilities in Serbia built in Belgrade.

- This department store is expected to open one year after the commencement of construction - says Milena Vujacic.
