Matijevic buys two cooperatives and 1.500 hecatres in Croatia
One of the greatest Serbian businessman, Petar Matijevic, the owner of Matijevic is running final negotiations on purchase of two agricultural enterprises in Croatia, which occupy 1,500 hecatres. These are, in fact, two agricultural cooperatives, Jankovci in Stari Jankvci and Negoslavci in the same place in Vukovar-Srem district. If Peter Matijevic succeeded in these negotiations, it would be the first time one of Serb businessman bought agricultural land in Croatia. On the other hand, the Croats have been present in the fields of Vojvodna for a long time and are mostly cultivated by Ivica Todoric who owns Agrokor and Osijek-based Zito grupa.
As Dnevnik finds out, Matijevic company representatives have already talked on several occasions with the leaders of the aforementioned Croatian cooperatives, and intentions of Matijevic company were addressed to the Croatian ambassador in Serbia, Zeljko Kupresak. Matijevic is negotiating with the majority owner of cooperative Stari Jankovci and Negoslavci, a businessman Enver Moralic, who is considered to be one of the most powerful players in the agribusiness in Croatia, a great lover of wine and vineyards, but also one of the richest European businessmen. As we found out, the price of cooperatives and land in Stari Jankovci and Negoslavci should not be a troublespot in the negotiations of Serbian and Croatian businessmen, considering that the fields in Croatia are not more expensive than in Vojvodina besides the fact our neighbors joined the European Union.
