Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic has ceremoniously opened a new production plant of Germany's Elrad in Vlasotince.

Elrad hired about 400 people from Vlasotince in 2004 to work on the production of parts for electronic appliances, while another 60 workers got a job on Wednesday (4 September 2013) at the new facility for producing parts for all types of cables.

Following the opening, Dacic stated that the top priority of the reshuffled government was to reduce the unemployment rate which was among the highest in Europe at the moment. He assessed that the arrival of this investor in the south of Serbia was of great significance because economic problems in that part of Serbia "are ten times more serious than in other areas." He voiced his belief that the Elrad company would also bring its business partners along.

Elrad's owner Sieghard Lang noted that it was necessary to establish cooperation with the government in the field of education to educate staff to meet production needs.

Workers at the newly opened plant first had to complete a weeks-long training in Elread to get the job, Beta news agency has reported.

As it was announced earlier, this is the first phase, and the phases to come will see the employment of additional workers.
