The Serbian government and Finance Minister Lazar Krstic are preparing an issue of international bonds to secure one more billion US dollars for the state, Blic reports. The main reason for this new borrowing is the fact that there is currently enough money in Serbia's budget to allow for the regular functioning of the state only by the end of October.

- Preparations for the new issue of Eurobonds worth about USD 1 billion are almost finished. However, our wish is to do this as late as possible because we count on government's new measures to lower the interest rates at which the state will borrow the money. But, regardless of that, it is clear that we will no longer be able to borrow money under the same conditions as few months ago - Blic cites its source as saying.

This source added that the government was also looking for an alternative solution to secure fresh money for the budget.

Professor Milojko Arsic points out to Blic that the government will have to take out a loan of about EUR 700 million by the year's end.

Arsic adds that this money can be secured only with the new Eurobond issue, but he warns that it is not such a favorable solution for Serbia.
