Regional landfill opens in Subotica by 2017 - About EUR 20 million provided
Subotica Mayor Modest Dulic said Thursday (7 November 2013) that the tender for the construction of regional landfill in Subotica would be open until 4 February 2014, adding that in the best-case scenario, the landfill should become operational in 2017.
- Aside from Subotica, Backa Topola, Mali Idjos, Coka, Kanjiza and Senta, this regional waste management system would also cover Novi Knezevac - Dulic told the press.
- In ideal conditions, it takes two or three months to open bids, select the most favorable one and contract the works, meaning that we should have the contractor by mid-2014. The contractor will be given somewhat over two years to build the regional landfill complex, which means that the regional landfill, in the best-case scenario, will open in 2017 - said Dulic.
He stressed that funds for the implementation of that investment had already been provided, saying that EUR 16.85 million had been contributed by the IPA Fund, EUR 3.2 million by the Ministry of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection, and EUR 700,000 by aforementioned local self-governments.
- With all this money we can build a modern recycling center, where waste from our city and other six municipalities will be treated in the right way, and create conditions to refurbish existing landfills and dumps in the future - said Dulic.
First activities on the construction of this regional landfill commenced back in 2006.
The tender for the construction of regional landfill was published 31 October 2013 in the Official Gazette of the European Union.
