Everrest's investment in Ruma pending approval from Serbian government
The first item on the agenda of the Municipal Council of Ruma was related to the draft study of the feasibility of free-of-charge alienation of building land in the industrial zone Rumska Petlja to the Everrest Production company. This memory foam producer headquartered in Novi Sad is 90 percent owned by Chinese investors, while a 10 percent stake in it is held by investors from Denmark, it was announced on the website of the Ruma municipality.
The feasibility study is supported by the Council, but it is still pending approval from the Serbian governmet. The Chinese-Danish company wants to build a production facility of about 11,500 square meters on a 5.6 hectare land lot in the industrial zone Rumska Petlja.
Considering that the company plans to hire 225 people, the fee for building land is to be cut by 100% pursuant to local regulations.
- According to the business plan, the investor is going to invest about EUR 5 millilon in the construction of this production facility and another 4.1 million in equipment - said Ruma Mayor Dragan Panic.
The Ruma municipality will enjoy a great economic benefit from this investment. It is true that the company will be freed from paying fees totaling about EUR 529,000, but it will also contribute about EUR 620,000 in income, property, ecology and other taxes to the budget in the period 2014-2017.
