Transshipment capacity at " Novi Sad Port" , was increased by 50% in the second half of the 2013 , which significantly improved the flow of small goods - wheat , corn and other agricultural products , said the director of " Novi Sad Port " Aleksandar Milovančev , adding that this will continue also in 2014, in order to define the leading position in the region .
- Storage space has been increased for about 15 % compared to 2012, and in the second half of the 2013, thanks partly toe the market conditions , and partly to the measures that we have introduced , as we tripled the transshipment - Milovančev said for Tanjug.
Expectations of transshipment of goods valued at 650,000 tonnes were significantly exceeded , and according to Milovančev , " Novi Sad Port " made 750.000 tons of goods in transshipment, which is over 100,000 tons more than originally planned.
- I think we've managed to break the record , and to achieve the greatest transshipment so far in the six-month period - said Milovančev .
Noting that the average monthly transshipment amounts to between 98,000 and 99,000 tons , he estimated that it was a great result as there are ports who have 100.000 tons of goods transshipped for the whole year.
According to him , this has been achieved by reducing the costs to third parties , rationalization within the company and taking steps to increase the transhipment of goods .
New management of the Port, upon arrival at the head of the company in July 2013, found a competent professional staff and skilled workers which, as he said , allowed faster and easier implementation of the measures to improve the business.
All ports on the Danube, where more than 500,000 tons of goods were transshipped, are considered international ports , and according Milovančev's words, there are only two parts in Serbia at the moment that meet this criterion , such as "Port of Novi Sad" and "Pancevo Port " .
In the " Port of Novi Sad" , it is in plan to further increase the capacity of transshipment , which would secure a leading position in the region by the amount of goods transshipped.
- It can be said that the port is at the moment very well equipped , we have six cranes that are operating , but we plan to put the seventh crane which is close to the maximum capacity of the port with this kind of the bank - said Milovančev .
We also have in plan terminals for loading and unloading of containers , Milovančev said , adding that he is thinking of " accepting a job with equipment for washing containers, which is still not done in these region ."
He added that the management of " Port of Novi Sad" is thinking about how to create terminals in which the whole truck could enter the ship where transshipment would be done and especially , it is being considered to increase the storage capacity .
- We intend to expand storage capacity in 2014, especially so called floor storages , where the goods are stored for a short period in which the process of transshipment is very fast as much as 300 tons per hour - he said .
According to him , these storages are equipped with air conditioning so that the goods remain in perfect condition , and the goal is to avoid weather impacts on port operations .
- This would bring significant savings , and hence improved business of " Port of Novi Sad" - concluded Milovančev .
