General Motors recalls nearly million cars
American carmaker General Motors (GM), which is already under investigation in the USA, is adding 971,000 cars to its global ignition switch recall.
The recall affects all models of the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5 and Buick made from 2008-2011, the company said in a release.
A total of 824,000 cars will be recalled in the United States and the rest in Canada and Mexico.
GM has so far recalled 2.6 million cars over faulty ignition switches and airbags.
This company is already under three investigations in the USA because of previous recalls over faulty ignition switches that shut down the engine and disable the cars' power steering, power brakes and airbags in drive, which led to many accidents and 12 deaths.
All these repairs will cost GM about USD 300 million in the first quarter of this year.
