Tarzan is ours - inhabitants of Međe want to immortalize famous actor and swimmer Johnny Weissmuller

Few inhabitants of Banat's village of Međa came to the idea to erect the monument to Johnny Weissmuller, the legendary swimmer and the actor who became famous with his role of Tarzan.

The inhabitants of Međa claim that Peter Janosz Weissmuller, AKA Tarzan, was born in 1904 in Međa, not in Romania, as some biographies claim. This is backed by the fact that there are still some of his descendants living in the village.

Terezida Stojanović, the granddaughter of Carlo Weissmuller, Johnny's cousin, occasionally visits a house in 29. novembra Street. Terezida lives in Belgrade and she confirms that the famous actor is her grandfather.
