Robert Adler passed away - creator of remote controller
American inventor Robert Adler, best known as the creator of the remote controller for TV program, passed away in his 93rd year of life. Adler obtained Emi award in 1997 for "remote", one of the most popular household gadgets, which he invented together with a colleague of his, Eugen Poli, in 1956.
During his 60-year career, he invented about 180 more patents and, according to his widow Ingrid, his favorite one was remote controller, although he rarely watched TV and preferred reading.
Adler started to work in electronic company "Zenit" in 1941, in which he stayed until 1999. Zenit's remote controller was the first device of that kind in the world, but it was first connected to the TV set with the cord.
Later, the wireless gadgets communicated with TV sets by means of photo cells, but they also suffered from the consequences caused by sunrays. Adler's contribution was invention of the gadget based on ultrasound signals.
