Overview

The municipality of Bečej covers the area of 487 km2. It is located in the far east of Bačka region, reaching the middle section of the Serbian right bank of the river Tisa. The municipality includes: Bečej Bačko Gradište, Bačko Petrovo Selo, Mileševo (Drljan), Poljanice, and Radičević. Distance to Belgrade Airport is 127 km and to Novi Sad 48 km.

Population

The municipality has around 45,000 inhabitants, of whom 27,000 live in the town of Bečej. There are 5,700 unemployed persons.

Economy

The municipality owes its development mostly to the resources typical of a plain: arable soil, water resources, natural gas, and thermal springs. Hence, agriculture has taken the leading role in the economic boom of the municipality. These natural, social and cultural potentials logically resulted in the development of the agriculture and food processing industry, mainly vegetable and soybean processing plants and a brewery. Metal, textile, leather, timber and wood processing industry and construction are the main factors in its economic development. German producer and supplier of industrial and medical gases “Linde Gas AG” has its production facilities in Bečej.

Infrastructure

Railway, roadways and waterways connect Bečej with the rest of the country. The municipality is around 20 km away from the main traffic artery, E75 motorway (Corridor 10). It is 50 km away from Novi Sad, and 75 km from the border crossing to Hungary.

Tourism

Thermal springs constitute significant natural resources of the town. Some 12 km away from Bečej, on the Bečej-Bačka Topola road, there is a castle built in 1920s by the well-known proprietor Bogdan Dunđerski. It has been reconstructed recently and converted into the high-class “Fantast” hotel. The town of Bečej has a iodine spa opened in 1904. There is also the river Tisa and Great Bački canal, Beljanska Swamp, and a lot of small canals.

Site description

The site is located on the Danube – Tisa – Danube Canal, 1km off the county road Novi Sad – Bečej, and 200m away from the local railroad line.

The plot is registered as ’undeveloped other construction land’.

Service infrastructure

The site can be readily equipped with infrastructure/public utilities. There are access roads, and construction of a pier on the canal is planned.

Additional information

The shortest possible period necessary for obtaining all the required permissions and approvals for construction on the site is 80 days.

LOCATION 2

Site: Spa „Jodna banja”, Bečej

Total area: 48ha

Type of ownership: Municipal property

Intended use: centre for rehabilitation and recreation (for cardiovascular patients)

Site description

The site is located in the centre of the settlement of Bečej, 1.5km away from the county road Novi Sad – Bečej.

Service infrastructure

The site can be readily equipped with infrastructure/public utilities. There are access roads.

Additional information

The shortest possible period necessary for obtaining all the required permissions and approvals for construction on the site is 80 days.

LOCATION 3

Site: Industrial zone, Bečej

Total plot area: 3 ha

Type of ownership: partly owned by the municipality and partly privately owned

Intended use: Construction of various industrial plants

Infrastructure: The site has access only to power supply system. Water supply system and gas pipeline are 250 m away. The lot is 300 m away from the main road and 150 m from the railway.

Additional information: Lease of land for the period of 99 years is possible. The shortest possible period necessary for obtaining all the required permits and approvals for construction on the site is 45 days. Some of the necessary planning and regulatory documentation already exists, such as Detailed Master Plan.
