Non-Government Organization "Food Bank - Belgrade" to commence its first big humanitarian action in Serbia
The difficult position of the soup kitchens and other social institutions in Serbia is the reason for the first big action of NGO "Food Bank - Belgrade", which will be represented today (February 28, 2007).
This organization announces that it will appeal at the meeting, the patrons of which are French Embassy and "OM Ogilvy", to the donators and sponsors to join the campaign for collecting of food for Sout kitchen in Smederevo and Special Institute for Children and Youth "Dr Nikola Šumenković" in Stamnica.
The main activities of "Food Bank - Belgrade", which was founded in 2006, are collecting of industrial, agricultural and trade products from the donators, their storing, classification and distribution among the poor according to the concept of work applied by the food banks in 17 European countries.
This Belgrade-based organization is a part of the European Federation of Food Banks, which was founded by France and Belgium in 1986. This Federation distributed 215,000 tons of food among nearly 4m people in 2005 through 188 local European banks.
