First IKEA store in Belgrade to open near Bubanj Potok
Representatives of the Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure spoke yesterday with a delegation of the IKEA company about the ways to resolve infrastructure issues, which is a precondition to opening the first department stores of the world's largest chain of furniture stores in Belgrade by the end of 2016.
A team of aforementioned ministry, led by State Secretary Dejan Trifunovic, pointed out that the opening of IKEA production, distribution and retail facilities was of exceptional importance to Serbia. With the aim of implementing the next steps in a more efficient manner, it's been proposed that the Ministry, competent public companies and the Building Land and Development Directorate of Belgrade sign a cooperation protocol with the IKEA company to define the obligations of all sides.
As the Ministry announced, IKEA's delegation pointed to the importance of connecting the locations of future retail stores through infrastructure, relocating the highway toll gate in Bubanj Potok, and building a new Transped interchange. These are all preconditions to commencing the construction of first facilities as soon as possible in order for Belgrade to keep the status of IKEA's regional center for southeast Europe.
