Blast furnace at Zelezara Smederevo back in operation

Over the next two or three days, the first tonnes of liquid iron will be first transported to the Steelworks and then to the Hot Rolling Mill in Smederevo.

According to the production plan, other main production units will be successively put into operation.

Zelezara Smederevo employees will return to work in line with the work plan for each individual unit, steelworks officials said in a release.

Firing up of one of the two blast furnaces at Zelezara Smederevo was first announced for late June, but it was postponed for technical reasons.

Economy Minister Dusan Vujovic told TV B92 this week that a tender to sell Zelezara Smederevo would be announced within the next two months, but he did not want to reveal more details.
