Company "Sunoko" announced 13m EUR worth of investments in its four sugar plants in Serbia
- Company "Sunoko", a member of "Nordcuker" group, the third largest sugar manufacturer in Europe, will invest 13m EUR in the development of its four sugar plants in Vojvodina – in Pećinci, Kovačica, Bač and Srbobran – said the Manager of the company Dragan Popović.
At the meeting with the manufacturers of sugar beet in the Srem Chamber of Commerce, Popović announced that 6m EUR would be set aside for the sugar factory in Pećinci in 2007.
- We expect that it will reach the daily level of processing of 6,500 tons of raw materials in the following campaign and that it will become the leader in sugar production in the country in year or two - said Popović.
According to his estimate, about 460,000 tons of sugar will be produced in Serbia in 2007. European Union has approved export of 210,000 tons to us, while the remaining share is intended for the domestic needs.
Popović, however, claims that we could have more than 100,000 tons of surplus sugar already in 2007 and, at this moment, there is idea how that quantity could be marketed. That will cause the closing of one to three sugar plants in the country, or their adaptation to the newly created conditions. This was stated by the Manager of the leading company in sugar production in the country.
