Big race in Vojvodina, who will become owner of largest estate? Matijević and Kostić - biggest competitors
Announcement by "MK-Commerce" and its owner Miodrag Kostić of intention of procurement of 10,000 - 50,000 ha of agricultural land in Vojvodina raised questions about who has been buying cultivated fields and combines so far and who will be the owner of the largest estate. The winner will, most likely, be selected between "sugar king", Miodrag Kostić, and the owner of meat industry "Matijević", Petar Matijević. At the moment, Matijević is leading by 2 combines.
Also, Petar Matijević has more cultivated fields in his possession. He recently bought ”Zlatica” from Lazarevo near Zrenjanin, “Ravnica" from Bajmok and "Bezdan" from the namesake place. These 3 fields brought him about 10,000 ha. In other words, by buying stocks from minor stockholders in Bezdan he bought 1,500 ha of public fields, whereas he rented State-owned 1,000 ha. As far as "Ravnica" is concerned, according to data from stock exchange prospects, he owns 4,648 ha, 2,400 of which are State-owned, while 2,248 ha is public land. Also, he has 3,500 ha in "Zlatica", 1,528 ha of which are public ones, whereas the rest are State-owned cultivated fields. When the line is drawn, Matijević is the owner of about 5,300 ha and he has about the same amount of State-owned fields under his control.
Miodrag Kostić lags behind him, but not so much. So far he has bought Vršac-based agricultural company “Panonija”, which has 4,500 ha at its disposal, 2,300 ha of which are public property. By purchasing sugar refineries, he also bought the land: he got 157 ha by buying Kovačica, 100 ha by buying Pećince and about 68 ha by buying Bač. He is interested in all unsold agricultural combines in Vojvodina, such as Military Institution "Karađorđevo", "Napredak" from Pazova, Inđija-based "Agrounija"...
The most serious rival to Kostić and Matijević could be Miroslav Mišković and his "Delta", which manages agricultural property "Kozara” from Banatsko Veliko Selo with about 1,900 ha of cultivated fields, 880 ha of which are public property. Dragoljub Marković, "Krmivoprodukt", has become one of the owners of “Moravica” from Stara Moravica, which has about 2,120 ha of cultivated fields. "Sojaprotein" and its owners Milija Babović, Zoran Mitrović and Stanko Popović became managers of 1,896 ha of agricultural land after they became majority owners of Kikinda-based agricultural property "Kinđa". Well-known Kisač-based agricultural property “Irmovo” was sold to Slobodan Radun, the owner of Bačka Palanka-based "Nektar". "Irmovo", by the way, has at its disposal 707 ha agricultural land. Majority owner of agricultural company "Nova brazda" in Đurđin is Zoran Beronja. The company from Đurđin has over 900 ha of cultivated fields. "Big bull", or, better say, Milenko Gačić, became the owner of Private Company "Sombor" by take-over of majority package of stocks. That company has somewhat less than 2,000 ha of public land, which is the subject to privatization, and it also manages State-owned fields. Perlez-based “Sloga” and 4.888 ha have been taken over by Hungarian company from Debrecin "Haju-avis", “Sava Kovačević” from Vrbas with 3,880 ha was bought by Vrbas-based consortium "Mirotin", Private Company “Sokolac” from Novi Bečej and 3.229 ha were taken by DOO "Multinova", also from Hungary. “Halas Jožef” from Ada manages 3,675 ha, 1,800 of which are public property, bought by Ivan Jakovljević, a businessman from Šabac...
The biggest agricultural combine in Vojvodina is PIK "Bečej", which has 14,000 ha of fields, and if Matijević continue his procurements and Kostić realizes his plans, then it is clear that the order on the chart may soon be different. There are 169 companies in Vojvodina that manage cultivated fields, 82 of which are sold. Also, of 375,000 ha of State-owned and public cultivated fields, about 150,000 ha got new owners or renters.
