Cheap flights form Niš – Contract with a low cost airline soon
Meeting yesterday, the City Council approved the decision of the Supervisory Board of the public company Airport Niš to adopt a study with a programme of measures to improve the competitiveness of Constantine the Great airport, together with a price list of airport services.
“I think we will be finished today translating the contract. It has been analysed intensively by both parties and in my opinion it ought to be signed in the next couple of weeks. We also took contact to the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure who will be present when the contract is signed. The airport charge is at present 3 euros”, said Mayor Perišić.
He recalled that a few years ago there were also talks with a low-budget airline when for a year there were weekly flights on the line Niš – Forli, which cost the city budget as much as EUR 950,000. Now there will be no city subsidies at all for low-cost companies.
“This is long-term work. Niš definitely can't expect a sustainable airport business from the one European destination that we expect on the summer flight schedule, nor even with another that we expect in the autumn, nor even with a larger number. A lot has to happen, but we are creating conditions for the airport to be open all year round with maximum passenger security and on conditions acceptable to the City of Niš”, said Mayor Perišić.
