Lawyers from entire Serbia on strike starting September 17

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, the Assembly of the Bar of Serbia decided that all lawyers in Serbia will go on strike which lawyers from Belgrade started on Wednesday because they are not satisfied with the increase in lump tax fees and advocacy position, claiming their constitutional and legal position is endangered.

Lawyers from Belgrade will continue with strike and the others from Serbia will start on Wednesday so that until then they could inform courts on their decision, the President of the Bar, Slobodan Soskic said for Tanjug and announced that the strike will continue until requests of the bar are adopted.

At the Assembly of lawyers, it was decided that all lawyers withdraw from all working groups of the ministries at the Government of Serbia as well as working institutions for expert support in joining negotiations for joining the EU in chapters 23 and 24 as well as to withdraw from membership at the High Council of court and Governmental Council of prosecutors.

It was also recommended to lawyers that they do not participate in procedures before public notaries.

The Bar asked a replacement of the Minister of Justice, Nikola Selakovic, due to dissatisfaction in the process of adoption of the Law on public notaries and selection of public notaries in Serbia.

The Managing Board at AKS will inform the International Union of lawyers about their dissatisfaction and as they claim, discrimination of advocacy in Serbia.

Recommendations adopted at the assembly were made by XVII Conference of the lawyers of Serbia in Dom sindikata where over 7000 lawyers participated.
