Vrsac-based airport is waiting railway expansion

The Vrsac Airport, which is part of the Pilot Academy of SMATSA, has been open for international flights for 11 years, but has not yet become commercial, such as Belgrade-based Nikola Tesla and Nis-based Kontantin Veliki. Here, the conditions for landing of small passenger aircraft up to 70 seats are gradually created, which will in the near future be charged for airport services, which is currently not the case.

Director of the Academy, Mirko Vranic, reminds that SMATSA invested several million euros in their modernization for seven years, as the owner of the airport and academy. First, about 10 kilometers of wire railings were installed around the airport area, and then both concrete beams equipped with state-of-the-art telecommunication and light signaling, to allow for night flight and landing. The tower and equipment for flight control, which operates within the airport, has also been modernized.

For now, international flights are only performed "at check-in". Airport services are not charged, as this airport is not registered for this.- If someone wants to land at our airport, it just needs to be announced. If that flight is for our needs, we give consent to landing. Everything is free – Vranic says.Consequently, the border crossing at the airport works as needed, so border police and customs officers come only when they have announced flights.
