Construction of Stop Shop mall in Lazarevac to begin in March – Belgrade municipality to get maternity hospital, infrastructural facilities in 2017 as well
Lazarevac will get a maternity hospital in 2017, thereby solving a 30-year-old problem, stated the president of the municipality, Bojan Sindjelic, who said that the construction had started the previous year, that the first phase of the project was completed and that a tender for new works had opened. Sindjelic also announced the opening of Karadjordjeva Street, investments in new infrastructural projects and a new shopping mall in 2017.
Karadjordjeva Street, the pedestrian zone of the main promenade in Lazarevac, as Sindjelic said, will open in the first half of 2017, and the works are nearing completion.
He expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the municipal budget for 2017 was around RSD 73 million higher compared to 2016 and said that the water supply network in the northeastern part of the municipality was to be extended in 2017 as well. Sindjelic also said that they would work on supplying the southern part of the municipality with water from the Stubo-Rovni dam and the water system.
According to him, around 30% of the citizens of Lazarevac (of the total of 60,000 people living in the territory of the municipality) experience problems with water supply, especially with sewage.
– There are even parts of the town than don't have the sewer, but these are problems that have been present for years due to unplanned settlement. We will invest a lot in new infrastructural facilities in 2017 in order to solve the sewage problem to the greatest extent possible, primarily in the territory of the town, and then in the village areas as well – Sindjelic says.
The maternity hospital, Karadjordjeva Street and water and sewage network are the three big projects, and in addition to those, Sindjelic says, the plan is for a foreign investor to raise a 10,000 m2 shopping mall.
– This is a remarkable project, which has already been agreed, so we expect the works to be be completed in September – Sindjelic says and adds that the construction of Stop Shop will begin in March and that it will lead to the employment of around 300 people, as well as that it shows that investors see Lazarevac as a place it pays off to invest in.
He announces that there will be investments in the development of agriculture in 2017 as well and says that Lazarevac has great potential for organic production, such as the production of wine, brandy, prunes, blueberries, chokeberries...
– We will work on having as many people from the village areas as possible self-employed in organic production. There are several high-quality producers. We've had Italian investors visit us and they were delighted with our products, but the small amounts are a problem – Sindjelic says.
He adds that they will therefore work on bringing agricultural producers together in order to produce the highest amounts possible and become competitive in the market.
There are also, as he says, funds for aiding agriculture, especially livestock farming.
As in previous years, Sindjelic announces that a certain number of plum, apple, pear, hazelnut and vine seedlings will be gifted to agriculturists in 2017.
