Arabs interested in Ponikve Airport – Master plan envisions two terminals, hotel, shopping mall, hospital...

A modern airport, hundreds of thousands of square meters of office space, a hotel, a stadium, a hospital, a university, it's all allegedly a part of the offer of Isan Trading LLC from Saudi Arabia for the Ponikve Airport near Uzice.

Nevertheless, it is not known how realistic the offer is and who is to decide on it. The Riyadh-based company, according to the master plan, is willing to raise, next to the runway, a congress center (118,000 m2), a shopping mall (88,000 m2), restaurants (95,000 m2), a business zone (128,000 m2), offices (69,000 m2), a hotel with 300 rooms, two terminals with 5,000 m2 each, a cargo center, a hospital, a university, a stadium.

All of that should cost around EUR 100 million, which seems like a small amount considering that the area is not equipped with utilities or electricity, and that the roads are still being built.

– The price of a square meter is EUR 250, plus EUR 300-400 for equipping with utilities. The construction of a complex that large for EUR 100 million, or even a several times larger amount, is impossible – a design studio says.

The airport's management, the City and the Ministry of Construction confirm that they've received the offer, but no one has said anything about how realistic it truly is.
