Mercator-S expands retail network - 9 million euros for 22 facilities in regions of Podunavlje and Branicevo
Mercator-S will open 12 Roda markets in the regions of Podunavlje and Branicevo by the end of year 2010, while another 10 are planned to be opened prior to the end of March 2011. New retail facilities are the result of the agreement on strategic merger with Coka business system, which was signed in August. The investment in all facilities amounts to a total of about 9 million euros.
The first phase of the opening of facilities starts with the opening of three Roda markets in Smederevo. Markets in Pozarevac, Petrovac and Lipe will be opened on December 3, while a mega market and market in Smederevska Palanka and a market in Azanja and Markovac should be opened on December 8. These facilities will be open every day between 6 AM and 10 PM, except on Sunday when they will close at 4 PM.
Let us remind that Mercator-S signed an agreement on long-term lease of the facilities from Coka business system for the period of 15 years in August 2010. In that way, the number of retail facilities that operate within trade company Mercator-S grew by 22, that is, the company got new 12,300 square meters of retail space. In that way, Mercator-S has strengthened its position in the retail sector in Serbia and the market share of about 8% guarantees the company the second place on the list of top traders in the market of Serbia. By taking over 230 workers, Mercator is one of the largest employers in Serbia with about 4,200 employees.
