The Symbol of the City on Vinik Hill - Serbian Orthodox Church and the city of Nis are building Complex of the Emperor Constantine
The contract on joint construction of the Complex of Emperor Constantine in Nis will be signed tomorrow (25 December 2010) at St. Sava Home by the Serbian Patriarch Irenaeus and the Mayor, Milos Simonovic.
Nis City Council passed a Conclusion yesterday with which it is proposed to the Mayor to sign the Agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church - Diocese of Nis, in regard to the joint building of the Complex of Emperor Constantine in Nis.
One year after launching the initiative to build a Complex of Emperor Constantine, Nis is one step closer to the day when it will have a cross of eighty meters become recognizable symbol of the city.
The construction of the Complex of Emperor Constantine, which will contain a cross, will begin after the signing of contract between local government and the Serbian Orthodox Church. First, the main phase of the complex should be completed by 2013. It will extend on six acres of city land, and preliminary design has been elaborated by the company "Kapaprojekt" from Nis.
The complex will be built on the western side of the hill Vinik. It consists of three levels. On the first level, there is an access road with the parking lot. On the second level are auxiliary facilities, hotels, media centers, restaurants, and on the third level are major facilities, cross and amphitheater.
In the central part of the Museum of Emperor Constantine, above the museum there is a circular plateau with the monogram of Christ out of which comes a cross of steel construction with a concrete core, and of 82 m height, 40 m width and with a 60m viewpoint.
