Awakening of the spirit of Serbian capital city from the 1930's - Replica Terazije theme park opens May 2012 in New Belgrade

The image of Terazije Square from the photo of the Serbian capital city from the 1930's will soon again come alive in Belgrade, but those wishing to have a lunch or an afternoon drink at Moskva hotel from that time will have to go to New Belgrade, where replicas of the facilities that once stood at the popular Belgrade square are planned to be built soon.

Construction of the theme park "Replica of the 1930's Terazije" will be financed by the public company Poslovni Prostor of the city borough of New Belgrade. The idea is to show how people once lived and stayed in facilities that still exist in the center of the Serbian capital, and this complex will be used for entertainment purposes. New Belgrade will feature replicas of hotels Moskva, Balkan, Kasina and Pariz, restaurants, shops and cultural facilities.

This theme park will be situated between the railway station Novi Beograd (New Belgrade) and Super Vero shopping center, and New Belgrade Mayor Nenad Milenkovic recently told Blic daily that the park would span about 6,000 square meters.

The author of a preliminary design of the park, which should come to life in May 2012, is Belgrade-based CIP, while Yu Build provided consulting services. A main design competition is already underway.

Based on technical documentation, which has been shown to eKapija, Replica Terazije theme park will include the central part of the square with the fountain, green areas, old trams on tracks between the opposite sides of the square and facades from that historical period, behind which facilities for various purposes will be situated.

All these facilities, except for those situated in the locations of hotels Moskva, Pariz, Bristol and Kasina, should serve as shops, bars or restaurants. A replica of the hotel Moskva will be leased to the namesake hotel and have the same purpose, while replicas of hotels Kasina and Pariz will serve as an exhibition and concert space, as requested by Beogradizacija Beograda.

Aside from being able to visit old craft shops and shop for souvenirs, visitors will need to exchange dinars at the entrance to the theme park for the money that was in circulation in the 1930's, which will be the only currency accepted within the park.

As people at Poslovni Prostor told eKapija, the value of this investment is currently estimated at RSD 50 million.

The officials of New Belgrade point out that there is no similar theme park anywhere in the region, adding that Terazije Square will also be a good destination for tourists and student excursions. In addition, this park can be used to shoot movies as well.
