Srbobran gets aqua park - Construction of water attractions and thermal spa worth EUR 5 million kicks off this year

Srbobran has decided to join Jagodina, Backi Petrovac, Veliko Gradiste and Arandjelovac and become a new destination for all aqua park lovers. This municipality in Backa will start the first phase of construction of a 3-hectare aqua park in 2012, and the value of this investment will reach EUR 5 million in this phase. In order to also offer tourists an adequate accommodation, the municipality yesterday acquired Elan hotel, which was put up for sale back in 2008.

- We've decided to open an aqua park and a thermal spa because our municipality has plenty of potential to develop this form of tourism, since it features a well with water whose temperature is 67 degrees Centigrade. The complex will span 6 hectares and comprise 10 swimming pools - Branko Gajin, mayor of Srbobran, says in an interview with eKapija.

The first phase of works, which should kick off this year, will include the construction of 5 pools on a 3-hectare area. The value of the first phase will reach EUR 5 million, and the completion of all works is expected in 2015.

- We bought Elan hotel yesterday because we need accommodation capacities. The acquisition of the hotel was preceded by six-month preparations, which included lobbying and collecting of funds for the acquisition. After two unsuccessful auctions, the municipality of Srbobran purchased the hotel for nine million dinars – Gajin stresses.

This B-category hotel and its accompanying facilities span a total of 43.5 ares. It comprises 52 rooms, three suites, a fitness center, a bakery and several halls and balconies. The mayor of Srbobran also announces the commencement of the hotel renovation in 2012.

- About EUR 1 million will be invested in the hotel renovation. The municipality has a revenue from oil rents in the amount of RSD 60 million a year, so that we plan to invest that money in the renovation of Elan hotel over the next two years. There will also be a wellness center within the hotel complex. We also expect a financial aid from the province for the construction of the aqua park and the thermal spa - the mayor of Srbobran points out.

The aqua park design is finished, and the construction is expected to start soon, so that part of the complex could be ready for the 2015 Workers' Olympics, which will be hosted by Srbobran.
