Agreement signed - How will new Marakana look like?
Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) football club and the Chinese construction company Nantong Construction Engineering Contracting Co. Ltd signed Thursday (25 April 2012) a Memorandum of Understanding for the reconstruction of Marakana football stadium, and certain details of this project have already been revealed.
According to the website redstarbelgrade.info, the renovated Marakana will have two-level western and eastern stands, whereas southern and northern stands will keep their current form. The other big change concerns the athletics track, which will be removed if the city provides funds for a track and field stadium. Otherwise, it will stay.
Crvena Zvezda should also get a part of the residential and office space within the complexes outside the stadium.
According to the plan, the club's fans Delije will have to be moved from the northern stands during their renovation.
- The next is to agree on the method of financing and ensure financial viability for all sides. The value of this investment is EUR 450 million, and I believe that its construction will boost the development of both Belgrade and Serbia and help the football club become again one of the best clubs in Europe - said President of Crvena Zvezda sports club Petar Skundric.
The project is signed by Mario Sua Kay.
