Construction of Science and Technology Park in Nis kicks off September - Investment worth EUR 10 million
A design for the Science and Technology Park has been presented at the University of Nis. Its construction will kick off this autumn on Gradsko Polje (the City Field), next to technical faculties. According to the design prepared by the Nis Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, the Science and Technology Park will span 11,000 square meters.
The idea is to make that facility a regional center for dynamic development of innovative, scientific and technological entrepreneurship. It will host works on various projects and scientific researches and provide all the necessary infrastructure to support individuals and enterprises in the field of high technologies.
The estimated value of this project is EUR 10 million, which are provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
According to the current plant, the Science and Technology Park will become a regional center for the development of scientific and technological entrepreneurship and take the lead role in international promotion of projects and companies.
- This wil be a new seed for the development of research work and entrepreneurship. It will be a new electronic industry in Nis, which will gather scientists and companies from Nis and abroad - said Miroljub Grozdanovic, rector of the University of Nis.
Nis Mayor Milos Simonovic announced that certain companies had already submitted some concrete offers for cooperation and participation in joint projects.
- In addition to the Technology Park, the company Telekom should also build a data center with a research laboratory - said Milos Simonovic.
The main design is already completed and now the tender documentation and the location are being prepared. According to the design, whose authors are Prof. Dr. Petar Mitkovic, Slavisa Kondic, Dr. Milan Tanic, Ivan Kostic, MA Miomir Vasov, Prof. Dr. Ljiljana Vasilevska and Doc. Dr. Danica Stankovic, the future facility will comprise office space for rent, outdoor and indoor parking lots, conference and meeting rooms, recreation space (fitness center, gym...), locker rooms, toilets, restaurants, bars, exhibition space spanning 150 square meters, etc.
The University of Nis is currently working on 200 scientific research projects involving 1,100 faculty scientists. Once the park is fully equipped and first tenants move in, this number should grow substantially.
